It used to be a military tool, which then became a must for commercial business. Now, almost every home has an Internet connection—thanks to the many service providers conveniently linking us to the web. One such provider is Qwest.
Features of Qwest
If you have a big household, and there’s a need to share the Internet, Qwest offers a wireless home networking, which lets you connect up to five computers at once. For this service, all that’s needed is a Qwest high-speed Internet connection and wireless advanced modem and adapters also from Qwest. It’s all easy to install—no more wiring or jacks. Depending on your location, Qwest can provide clients with connection speeds of up to 20 mbps.
Having a high-speed Internet connection through Qwest opens a lot of doors to its clients. Qwest also offers the “connected home” experience. With the Wireless Home Systems, customers get the convenience and quality of a landline call when wireless calls are received with their home phone.
Qwest Internet also provides tight security measures so you can monitor the activity in your home.
Disadvantages of using Qwest services
While Qwest’s wireless Internet connection can let more than one computer make a connection, this can affect the speed of your connection. Generally, when more units connect to a single wireless connection, the connection becomes slower.
Security is also an issue with wireless connections. You need to build up strong firewalls and other security measures so as not to let any unwanted content entering your connection, or other computers taking advantage of a free connection.

In this almost wireless world, setting up a home Internet service shouldn’t be any trouble, even for the non-techies. There are now many service providers who can equip you with a secure home wireless network. Here are some tips in setting up and configuring your Internet service:
Configuring your wireless home Internet service
If you are planning to connect more than one computer or laptop to your home Internet service, the best thing to buy is a router. It’ll be easier especially if a lot of people in the house needs to use the Internet at any given time. Choose a router depending on your computer (PC or Mac). Routers usually have an accompanying installation CD that will give you specific instructions in setting up.
Once you have your router up and running, keep in mind that the router’s signal will cover a large area—if you don’t put up security measures, even your neighbors get free Internet access. With some routers, you can require a username and password from computers/laptops accessing your connection. With others, there’s what you call a physical address (sometimes called MAC address) filter list, which lets you input the physical addresses of the units you want accessing the connection.
Top providers of wireless home Internet services
There are now many wireless home Internet service providers you can choose from. It’s best to canvas among these companies’ services before finally settling for one, just so you know what they all have to offer. Some of the top names are AT&T, Verizon, and Qwest.
With the help of your service provider, setting up a wireless home Internet connection is easy. Just keep in mind the security of your connection so you can maximize its use.

In a wireless home network, the various computers in your home are allowed to communicate with each other without the need for physical connections. Let's dig deeper to learn more about wireless Internet.
Advantages of having a home wireless Internet service
The most obvious advantage of having a home wireless Internet service is that various members of your home can have access to the Internet at the same time, using a single ISP account. The primary benefit is the ability for the various mobile devices to share files and various peripherals, such as printers,wWeb cams, and scanners. Family members can also bond together by playing online games. An often overlooked benefit is easy creation of backup copies for important files.
Top providers of wireless home Internet services
Some of the top providers of wireless home Internet services are AT&T, Clearwire, Clear Mobile, Qwest Internet, Comcast, Cox Cable, and Time Warner Internet. Top companies offering satellite Internet services include Skyway USA, Wildblue Satellite Internet, and Starband Satellite Internet.
The wireless home Internet service is still at its infancy. In addition to the benefits mentioned above, future advantages of this kind of service include home automation where the various appliances can be controlled by members of the family from wherever they are.

No more slow download times or restrictions in space because of the network cables. Now,
you can freely move around and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi technology. With the
recent advancement in wireless Internet and continued development, it seems like going
wireless is the future.
Wi-Fi for business
Wireless Internet access is offered by many businesses, not only coffee shops. It's proven
to be a good marketing strategy for increased sales and popularity. The Wi-Fi service does
seem like a magnet for potential customers who are looking for a place to do their web
browsing while enjoying, say, a cup of coffee or a piece of cake.
Wi-Fi for people on the go
Laptops have become a basic necessity for business travelers and students. With people
moving around everywhere, Wi-Fi seems to be a good solution to staying in touch through
e-mails, social networking, and other activity online. The success of wireless Internet
can perhaps be compared to the popularity of mobile phones.
Review of wireless Internet trends
Wireless Internet is not only available through laptops and netbooks but even on mobile
phones and game consoles. Recent developments focus on providing the same speed you can
enjoy from wired Internet service. There are also measures done to improve the security
when using wireless networks.

Perhaps by accident, you've gained access to someone else's Wi-Fi network. While you mean
no harm, this clearly shows how Wi-Fi network can be unsecured at times. To avoid
intrusion and illegal access to your Wi-Fi, here are some reminders:
Encryption for your wireless network
Encryption for your wireless network can be your best line of defense. Make sure that the
encryption is turned on, whether you're using the Wireless Protected Access or Wireless
Encryption Protocol. Use a password that won't easily be cracked or hacked by combining
both letters and numbers. Also replace the default network name.
Firewall for your Wi-Fi Internet
Be sure to install a firewall to prevent intruders from getting unauthorized access.
Though this cannot fully block illegal access to your network, you need all the extra
protection you can get. Consider running software firewalls on each computer on your
network.
Other security measures for wireless Internet access
Turn off your wireless card when you're done using the Internet connection. Before you log
in to a public hotspot, check first if the network is legit through its name and log in
date fields. Don't access important files in unsecured networks.

From coffee shops to other hangout places, Wi-Fi hotspots are part of the marketing ploy.
However, there's good and bad side to this. Here are some of them:
Benefits of offering wireless Internet
Laptop users can add to your daily customers by providing them Wi-Fi hotspots and the
privacy to do their web surfing. Coffee shops are among the first to reap the benefits of
this marketing strategy. With more customers, the business can enjoy increase in sales and
popularity. Since the competition is probably offering this perk, why shouldn't you if you
want to stay afloat?
Disadvantages of providing Wi-Fi access
Some customers are only interested in the Wi-Fi hotspot and not the service or business
offer. In some coffee shops, for example, customers only buy a cup and simply occupy some
space for long hours to do their browsing. If this doesn't convert into higher sales, then
the business may lose some of its investment on Wi-Fi subscription plans, especially when
access to Wi-Fi is offered for free.
Considerations when subscribing to a Wi-Fi service for your business
Aside from Wi-Fi, make sure that you're offering some good product or service to your
customers. Make sure that the place gives them the privacy and comfort they need for web
browsing. Check your sales plans and marketing strategies to make sure that the business
will benefit from providing Wi-Fi service, either for free or with a fee.

Rachael Scdoris is a blind Iditarod racer from the Alaskan sphere. Her only dream is to become the best Iditarod racer. Iditarod is a sled racing sport. But, it seems that getting in Iditarod is the greatest challenge for Rachael and her family because every racing game, most especially the Iditarod, requires eyes. You need clear vision in order to see where you are going. However for Rachael, this is not a serious problem.
She's a talented 21-year old woman who has courage to join Iditarod. Because of her determination, the Alaskan team accepted her and trained her. She has a personal visual interpreter, Ellering, who guides her direction every time she's blasting off with her sled on the cold white mountains of Alaska. Ellering has actually no difficulty in guiding and assisting her, save for the communication device. Rachael has to hold a radio while on her way and her other hand holds the sled. It's quite dangerous when she accidentally drops the radio. Fortunately, this has never happened though.
One day, a good-hearted policeman granted Rachael's wish. He gave her, Ellering, and her family a wireless device to aid her in her race. He donated a wireless headset from Television Equipment Associates. Now she doesn't need to hold anything but the sled. She just has to listen to Ellering's directions and her family's cheers with her wireless headphone.

Wireless networking is almost everywhere. It's also cheap that you can get a wireless LAN in just a few minutes. You only need $100 to get all the equipment needed to have your wireless LAN set up. Because of this ubiquitous wireless networking, unwanted network intruders are also fast growing. They might be lurking within your personal or your office wireless LAN. This is why I call for a sure security against these intruders. Guard that wireless network, whether personal or business.

Most people ignore the matter of security when it comes to wireless networking. This is why you should pay attention to my pieces of advise. First, be sure that your access for administration interface is secured by having a personal password. Change the password into something else that only you can have access to it. Use only MAC filtering to limit the network access only to your system. You must also turn your remote administration off so that no one can access your router.

There are many softwares that offer wireless security for your WLAN. You can check them out on the Internet or ask your friendly store manager. You have to choose wisely when selecting what security software to buy. Or, you can simply follow the pieces of advise I've given. Bear in mind that if you are planning for a wireless networking, you must be aware of its pros and cons because an intruder will always be an intruder no matter how protective we are of our online life.

We need wireless headphones primarily because we need to evolve. We need to go with the flow of technology. If not, we'll suffer from boredom and outdated devices. Technology is important since it makes life more comfortable and more convenient. Just a thought -- don't you hate it when people look at you as if they're going to eat you? I do! That's why I make sure that whenever they see me, they would get jealous of my high-tech gadgets.
Wednesday, May 9. 2007
You must first ensure your headphone's sound quality. It should be in good performance. That means you hear clear words, clear sounds, and heart-pounding bass that you wouldn't stop dancing to. Next is the comfort that it gives. How comfortable is it? Is it irritating or too hard for your ears? Last is the matter of price. Is it affordable? Or, if it's expensive -- is it worthy of the price? Choose only the right headphones for your delicate ears.

Ever wondered what wireless LAN or WLAN means? It is a wireless local area network, which means the linking of two or more computers without using wires. Unlike LAN, this one has a wireless interface. This wireless network employs spread-spectrum technology based on radio waves to enable communication between devices in a limited area, which is known as the basic service set. WLAN offers its users the mobility to move around within a broad coverage area but is still connected to the network.
Monday, April 30. 2007
There's no doubt that the wireless LAN or WLAN is becoming so popular these days especially with the rapid emergence of small portable devices such as PDAs or personal digital assistants. It offers a variety of benefits starting from the cost efficiency up to the seamless integration with other networks. These benefits include CAMP which stands for Convenience, Affordability, Mobility, and Productivity. It also poses deployment advantages like installation flexibility, speed and scalability. The regions with or without limited wired infrastructure can easily establish wireless communication. Also, wireless networks have a better chance of surviving disasters. Lastly, 802.11 wireless LANs, WiMAX and 3G+ cellular networks promise high bandwidths, global mobility, quality of service and seamless integration with one another.

Since it uses microwaves similar to those in mobile phones, there are health concerns being raised related to this wireless network. There are also fears that this network might be penetrated easily by an arbitrary trespasser who can snoop in on all the traffic and gain unauthorized access to internal network resources as well as to the Internet.
Saturday, April 28. 2007
Dell Computer Corporation is now jumping into the wireless bandwagon. The computer recently launched their 802.11 wireless card which claims to make Internet experience, a memorable experience. With the card installed on your Optiplex. Dimension, Inspiron, and Latitude computers, you can now enjoy playing your online games, watching high-definition video clips, and downloading overly huge files with higher speeds. Created by Broadcom for Dell, the card offers a whopping 270 mbps speed. Just load your PCs with the card and connect it to a wireless router.
Friday, April 27. 2007
The card that will support wireless fidelity for the Internet is available at a cheap price of $59. I think the price is already affordable and computer users either in the business or personal sector will be able to use the card. However, critics of the new technology said that the tool is not yet safe because it wasn't proven by the technical standards organization. But Broadcom already created a similar tool before which is now being used in the market.
Thursday, April 26. 2007
Dell admitted that they cannot put the cards to upgradeable levels. But they are sure that the much-hyped product will become a great aid for users who need faster connection and Internet access. Aside from the card, the company will also be releasing a software tool that will help setup and manage wireless connections a no-brainer. The new software utility will be shipped with Dell computers like the Inspiron and Dimension laptops, and Precision Workstations.
