Ever wondered what wireless LAN or WLAN means? It is a wireless local area network, which means the linking of two or more computers without using wires. Unlike LAN, this one has a wireless interface. This wireless network employs spread-spectrum technology based on radio waves to enable communication between devices in a limited area, which is known as the basic service set. WLAN offers its users the mobility to move around within a broad coverage area but is still connected to the network.

There's no doubt that the wireless LAN or WLAN is becoming so popular these days especially with the rapid emergence of small portable devices such as PDAs or personal digital assistants. It offers a variety of benefits starting from the cost efficiency up to the seamless integration with other networks. These benefits include CAMP which stands for Convenience, Affordability, Mobility, and Productivity. It also poses deployment advantages like installation flexibility, speed and scalability. The regions with or without limited wired infrastructure can easily establish wireless communication. Also, wireless networks have a better chance of surviving disasters. Lastly, 802.11 wireless LANs, WiMAX and 3G+ cellular networks promise high bandwidths, global mobility, quality of service and seamless integration with one another.

Since it uses microwaves similar to those in mobile phones, there are health concerns being raised related to this wireless network. There are also fears that this network might be penetrated easily by an arbitrary trespasser who can snoop in on all the traffic and gain unauthorized access to internal network resources as well as to the Internet.

If you are still putting up with meters and meters of wires for your everyday gizmos, HELLO! This is digital age knocking at your doorstep! Gone are the days when we are limited by cables, cords, and all that jazz. This is the time where wireless is not just a fad but a way of life. Sadly though, the more sophisticated and innovative the world becomes, so are the criminals of the modern era. These lawbreakers have not only plagued the subways, the alleys, and the streets, but also the information highway. One of these rapidly evolving crimes of the 21st century is wireless broadband hijacking.
Wireless broadband hijacking is when someone piggybacks on a leaky wireless network without the provider's consent. Hijacker activities sometimes include getting credit card numbers over unsecured wireless networks of stores, hack attack, and downloading of illegal pornography.
With wireless broadband hijacking's fast notoriety, there is a massive pressure for the broadband providers to fortify their services. But even with all the protection these suppliers offer, it still falls to the users of these services the responsibility of securing their networks. So the best way to avoid being victimized by these illegal-doers is to be a responsible end user of these wireless broadband services.

I incorporate wireless services in my business. The technology is such a huge advantage over traditional business processes. The very first time I use broadband, it was a bit uneasy. I invested a relatively large amount of money for it, while customers are still seeking for more excellent services. I admit that I overlooked the real deal in having broadband. Later, I learned that broadband is just a tool, and not the service itself. I could merely use it for business purposes and customers will do not even give a damn if I have it.
So far, I am able to survive the dilemma. Right now, I am still learning about various broadband services. The technology has helped me gain more sales since customers are allowed easy access on my site. Also, my employees experience fewer difficulties in dealing with customer services, since broadband allows way too easy configuration on data base and products configurations. I see clearly the significance of having wireless connections to achieve efficiency, profitability, and productivity.
However, as I have mentioned before, it was hard putting up broadband in business. My experience with it required me a careful analysis on my capabilities in setting up such services. I was compelled to make further considerations on my budget. The good thing with broadband is that it literally cuts my expenses in half. At least, I will just have to pay a few employees to operate or work on the computer, while the technology does the rest of the job. I also suggest to my partners to hold meetings through wireless conferencing. The technique does not also save us money, but time and effort as well. Another benefit I obtain from broadband is that I am able to connect to other companies and business associates while working. I find this the most convenient way to monitor my business at real time.

I don't know why, but most of us whether musically gifted or not are inclined to music. We sing in the church, in our abode, in our favorite rock band's concert, and in school. I believe almost everybody hums or even sings their lungs out while enjoying their hot or cold shower bath or swimming lesson. But I also think it would be more appealing if you sing in the showers while your favorite funky music is playing.
Think it's impossible? Well, think no more, because you can indeed have your own concert setup in your very own bathroom. Sharper image has come up with a "CD" Shower Companion Stereo AM/FM & CD MP3 with Aluminum Cone Speaker Technology. This music machine has a water-resistant housing that is ideal for your shower, bath tub, and pools. It also comes with built-in stereo speakers that enable you to play and hear your favorite songs.
With the new music companion in your bathroom, you'll be able to enjoy more of your shower time. You not only get to take a bath, you also have your very own concert. I really don't know but with the fast growth of technology nowadays, a water-resistant and several wireless DVDs might be your next target.

The development of laptop computers has led also to the development of wireless computer networking. Wireless computer networking allowed corporate people to optimize productivity even if they are not at the office or even while traveling. The first generation of wireless computer networks was unreliable and very slow.
The demand for faster connection was prompted by the need to download and upload larger files. This led to wireless broadband. Wireless broadband allowed efficiency in Internet connection without the need to connect to a wired terminal.

Broadband Internet connectivity translates to speed and efficiency. Packets and streams of data are processed in terms of kilo bits and even mega bits per second without fragmentation.
This type of broad band connection is readily available for wired-Internet connection such as Digital Subscriber Lines but is limited when it comes to Wi-Fi connectivity. Wireless broadband access is very useful for business applications. There are corporations such as TV networks which benefit greatly from wireless broadband access, especially in covering events in remote locations.

Still don't have access to broadband wireless technology? Well I've got good news for you! If you live in a rural town and cannot use Internet because you and your neighbors find DSL or cable modem too expensive, then forget this dilemma. There is such a thing as Wireless Internet Service Provider which can easily be set up for a cost that is lower than DSL and cable, and much more efficient since there is no need to set up cable networks in your area.
Compared to other broadband technology, WISP is the ultimate blessing to mankind. Not only can people in the outskirts of the city and rural areas able to have access to the Internet, they would also pay for a price that is just a fraction of DSL.
